Replacing a Power Distribution Unit (PDU) on a rack (Section 8.1.29)
Replacing a Power Distribution Module (AC power strip) on a rack (Section 8.1.30)
Replacing a Power Distribution Unit (PDU) on an HP ProCurve Switch 2650 or HP ProCurve Switch
2626 (Section 8.1.31)
8.1.1 Replacing the administration or MDS server, or the motherboard
component in the administration or MDS server
CAUTION: The process described here assumes that when a server is replaced, the PCI adapters and the
internal disks are moved from the old server to the new server.
If the internal disks are not moved from the old server to the new server, you must perform the procedure
described in Section 8.1.4.
Configuration impact
Changes the MAC address of the server on the management network.
Changes the license host ID on the server. As a result of this, a license check on the server will fail,
and the create filesystem and start filesystem commands will not work on the server
until you get new licenses from HP.
Process
1. Configure the BIOS system and the iLO component in the new server, as described in Chapter 6 and
Chapter 7 of the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide.
2. Run the scan mac command for the server, for example:
sfs> scan mac south2
sfs>
3. Reboot the server.
4. Enter the show license command on the server and note the host ID of the server displayed in the
output.
5. Go to the http://licensing.hp.com
Web site to retrieve the licensing contact information.
6. Send a copy of your existing license file (/var/flexlm/license.lic) and the new host ID of the
server to HP by email or fax. (You will find the email and fax details on the licensing Web site.)
While you are waiting for the new license file, you can use the create filesystem and start
filesystem commands on the peer server (for example, if you replaced the administration server
or the mother board in the administration server, you can run the commands on the MDS server).
7. When you receive your new licenses from HP, use the instructions provided in Section 3.11.3 to install
the new licenses.
