6.1 Verifying the system

This section describes how to verify that the system has been installed correctly and is operating successfully.

You can perform these tests at any time.

To verify the system installation and operation, perform the following tasks:

1. Verify the system configuration using the syscheck command, as described in Section 6.1.1.

2. Verify the operation of the power management, as described in Section 6.1.2.

3. Verify the storage configuration, as appropriate for your system:

• If your system uses EVA4000 storage, verify the storage as described in Section 6.1.3.

• If your system uses SFS20 storage, perform the tests described in Section 6.1.4 to check that an

SFS20 array has no error conditions. Repeat the tests described in that section for each array in

the system.

4. Verify LUN performance, as described in Section 6.1.5.

5. Verify the management network, as described in Section 6.1.6.

6. Verify the operation of supplementary groups, as described in Section 6.1.7.

7. Verify the interconnect, as appropriate for your interconnect type:

• If your system uses a Gigabit Ethernet interconnect, test the performance of the interconnect

using the net_test.bash command, as described in Section 6.1.8.1.

• If your system uses a Myrinet interconnect, verify the operation of the interconnect adapter and

the cable connecting each server to the interconnect by performing the diagnostic tests

described in Section 6.1.8.2.

• If your system uses a Quadrics interconnect, verify that the interconnect is working correctly by

performing the diagnostic tests described in Section 6.1.8.3.

• If your system uses a Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect, verify that the interconnect is configured

correctly by performing the diagnostic tests described in Section 6.1.8.4.

8. Verify the client performance, as described in Section 6.1.9.

6.1.1 Verifying the system configuration and diagnosing errors using the syscheck

command

The syscheck command is used to help to verify the system installation and to diagnose system errors. The

command can be run at any time during or after system installation.

The syscheck command options allow you to:

• Enable or disable test components.

The syscheck tests are grouped into components. See Table 6-1 for a list of the components and the

tests performed in each component. The default setting is to enable all components.

• Specify the levels of tests to be run.

There are currently two levels, (level 1 and level 2). Typically, the higher the level number, the more

complex the text, and the longer the test will take to run (that is, level 2 tests are more complex than

level 1 tests).
