Using the configuration interface
Best practices
• Avoid simultaneous configuration sessions for a given machine.
Although Management Infrastructure software supports simultaneous browser sessions, communic-
ation errors can result when multiple sessions simultaneously attempt to configure the same machine.
Example. Assume that two administrators simultaneously have sessions running to make changes
for machine A. One administrator changes port numbers on machine A, saves the changes and
restarts the Management Infrastructure service. When the service is restarted with the changed
port numbers, a communication error could occur in the session for the other administrator.
• Plan and coordinate restarting Management Infrastructure services
IMPORTANT:
To avoid the possibility of interrupting storage related operations, HP recommends that you carefully
plan and coordinate restarting the Management Infrastructure service.
• In a Management Group which includes multiple member machines, configure more than one
machine as an OS security domain authenticator. This practice prevents losing single sign-on
functionality for the Management Group should an authenticator machine become unavailable.
Changing a machine's configuration
In most cases the default settings are adequate and should not be changed. Guidelines for settings
are included in the online help, documentation, and in the interface. See “Viewing configuration
guidelines” on page 61.
Considerations
• Plan and coordinate restarting Management Infrastructure services.
IMPORTANT:
To avoid the possibility of interrupting storage related operations, HP recommends that you carefully
plan and coordinate restarting the Management Infrastructure service.
1. Log in to the Management Infrastructure configuration interface for the machine.
2. On the Configuration page, change the applicable configuration settings.
3. Click Save Changes. Wait until the changes are saved.
4. Click Restart Service. The changed settings are applied when the service restarts.
Configuring a multi-home machine
On a multi-homed (multiple NICs) machine, Management Infrastructure software binds to the first IP
address which is reported by the OS. If this is not the desired IP address, you can specify the address
by setting the Management Infrastructure Web Service IP Address.
