4 Performin g LUSE Operations

Launching LUN Expansion (LUSE)

To launch LUN Expansion:

1. In theRemoteWeb Consolemainwindow, click Go, Volume Manag er, and then LUN Expansion

on the

menu bar.

The LUSE window appears. This window enables you to perform LUSE operations.

Note:

To exit LUSE, click the Logout button in the upper-right corner of the Remote Web

Console main

window, or end the Web browser.

If you are going to implement any changes for LUN Expansion, you must have modify permission for

LUN Expansion.

You can view t

current LUSE conﬁguration on the LUSE window (see Figure 2 on page 17) .

• The LDEV Information tree displays the CU and LDEV numbers installed on the storage system

in a

hierarchical structure.

• The LDEV Det

ail

table d isplays detailed information for all open-system LDEVs in the selected CU.

you have selected a normal LDEV, the information in this section is for the top LDEV. If you have

selected a LUSE volume, the information in this table is for all of the LDEVs in the LUSE volume.

Note:

An LDE

number that ends with a # indicates that the LDEV is an external volume (for

example, 00:00:01#). For details regarding external volumes, see HP StorageWorks XP24000

External Storage Software User’s Guide.

Note:

An LDEV number that end s with a letter V indicates that the LD EV is a virtual volume

(V-VOL) (f

example, 0 0:00:01V). For details regarding V-VOLs, see HP StorageWorks XP24000

Viewing Concatenated Parity Groups

In the storage system, d ata can b e written to an LDEV that extends over concatenated parity groups.

Concatenation of parity g roups enables faster access to data.

To view a concatenated parity g roup:

1. Make sure that Remote Web Console is in Modify mode.

For detailed information about Modify mode, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Remote

Web Console User's Guide.

2. Select a CU number from the LDEV Information tree. The LDEV Detail table displays all LDEVs

in the

selected CU.

3. In the LDEV Detail table, select and right-click the free LDEVs that you want to form the LUSE

volume. If parity groups are concatenated, this displays the Concatenation List pop-up menu.

Note

:The Concatenatio n List command does not appear if the selected LDEV does not extend

over concatenated parity groups.

4. Select Concatenation List to display the Concatenation List dialog box (see Figure 3 on pa ge 22).

5. When you are ﬁnished viewing the list, click OK (or Cancel) to return to the LUN Expansion tab.
