Configure Management VIP on Primary Gateway
Configure the Virtual IP (VIP) which will be used for all future gateway management operations of
the gateway pair. It is important that all gateway management operations be performed on the
current ‘master’ gateway of the gateway pair. The management VIP is a virtual IP that will always be
hosted on the active ‘master’ gateway of the redundant pair so that any gateway operations and
management changes are saved in the active configuration database on the active ‘master gateway’.
# cluster master address vip <IP address> /<network prefix>
# write memory
hp-gateway1 [hp-redundant1: master] (config) # cluster master address vip
10.61.184.240 /24
*hp-gateway1 [hp-redundant1: master] (config) # write memory
After completion of this pairing process, use the Management VIP to connect to the network CLI or
web user interface for any gateway operations and configuration changes. The Management VIP
address will be hosted by the current ‘master’ gateway which will also have the active copy of the
configuration database. All configuration changes should be made on the currently active ‘master’
gateway so that configuration changes are saved in the active copy of the configuration database.
You should only use the individual IP address assigned to each gateway for individual gateway
debugging or maintenance, such as shutting down a specific gateway.
Verify Primary Gateway Network and Array Operation
Verify that the reliable network configuration changes are in effect and working. You can verify the
“Cluster master IF” and “Management IP” settings using the ‘show cluster global’ command. The
“Cluster master IF” should be set to “eth0” and the “Management IP” address should be set to the
management virtual IP address (VIP) .
hp-gateway1 [hp-redundant1: master] (config) # show cluster global
Cluster ID: 00500-0008-6090
Cluster name: hp-redundant1
Management IP: 10.61.184.240/24
Cluster master IF: eth0
Cluster node count: 1
